BIOPOLIS!!!

met up with yingjun and amanda at sbw mrt. train-ed all the way to jurong east than to buona vista. it took 35 minutes excluding waiting to get there. met wengsun there. she did sudoku while waiting for us. she's bored. wanted to take the shuttle bus in but end up walking instead as it was near but it ended up quite far. the building that we were suppose to go to, proteos, was located quite inside of biopolis.

went in and waited there. we waited for about 1hour before someone came and collect us. we were given a tag so that we can enter the building and have excess to the stairways and stuff. the lift needs to be activated too.

had a talk about lab safety and stuff. next was another talk. it's about the things that we will be doing. the speaker is supposedly from china and speaks with the chinese accent that plus there was lots of biological terms used, so it was a bit difficult to understand what he was saying sometimes. went to the lab we will be working in for the next two days. it's obviously very different from our school's one but nothing really anything special. had to wear lab coats and gloves. they used a very good method of splitting us into groups but i somehow still end up in the same group as ws(: had to try using a micropipette. there's 3 different types there and the maximum amount drawn is 1ml. WOW. nice. their testtube is also freaking small. only can contain maximum of 1.5ml.

a VS guy was my partner and going to be so for the next two days. luckily he's quite nice. let me do most of the time. we work on fruit fly embryos. super small. one is as small as a fullstop on this page or maybe smaller. some parts wasn't very nice. just keep repeating the steps and we keep on washing the embryos and everytime we wash, some embryo will be sucked up. so there's like lesser eggs left than what was provided at the start. was allowed to remove our gloves to finish the worksheet. after that, i let the guy do everything cause i'm lazy to wear back the gloves which is very powdery and leaves a clinical smell on my hands.

had to do some presentation on the third day. crap. did some registration before we leave. it was basically crap. went home. ws yj amanda was in quite a bad mood as what it was like wasn't what they thought it was going to be like.


WE MISSED SCHOOL! I MISSED BAND TOO!

reporting time was later. so decided to meet up with yj amd for breakfast @ macs. so i ended up waiting for them for about 20mins before realising that there are already at macs. ate and left. actually, the later we leave, the more people there is on the train. stand all the way to buona vista. ws still arrived earlier than us. walked there again. ws said that the distance is 1km from the mrt to proteos[our building]. wow!

went straight up to the lab. the only thing we are fascinated with in the building is the tapping of our cards on the reader and opening every lab door we pass as it just require a scan of your hand. many people already reach there and some were working on their project while we use a computer to visit our blogs and play games. lolx.

continued with our experiment from yesterday. had to wait 5mins between every washing for it to incubate. so we can talk and play during that time. me ws yj amd played heart attack during that time. this time, with our hands floating in mid-air. laugh a lot. had an early lunch while we wait for the embryos to incubate for 2hours. used the computer than went to the foodcourt at matrix for lunch. everytime, someone will end up buying the food that everyone wants to eat but the person cannot finish, so everyone will rush for the food. that's between the 4 of us. we bought jelly again and i ate yellow watermelon.

amd forgot to bring down her pass but she still manage to get up cause the security wasn't looking and he saw us came out before. we were still very fascinated with the card reader and will open the lab door that we see has no one everytime we pass by it. we thought we will be late for our various group discussion. end up, no one was doing and some people was watching 'bleach'. so we end up taking pictures with our lab coat on but without the gloves.

continued the experiment. this time, we got into contact with carcinogenic chemicals. after some swirling of our container wrapped in aluminium foil, the embryos changed colour. it was supposed to turn to brown but mine exceeded the time so it turned what they call 'charcoal'. look under the microscope. got to see parts of the nervous system that was stained. it was at this point of time that everyone start to realise that what we are doing actually got some link to neurobiology or simply, the nervous system. ws took a photo of the embryos under microscope. nice.

went for the fly lab tour after that. saw the place that all the fruit flies are kept. cool. the place or just a store room, has a radio in it and it smells weird and there's lots of containers of fruit flies, big and small. went back and slacked while others do the project. they so willing help us do all the research and stuff, so i just stand there and look.

went to a sky garden at helios. the tallest and biggest building in biopolis. it's freaking nice, located at the 12th floor plus there's air-conditioning too. cool. took out group photo there plus lots of random other photos. after that, we were released but most of the groups stayed to finish up the project. we left after a while and went to the foodcourt again to buy jelly. we are crazy about jellies. walked back to the mrt. elias came and pass me my test papers and homework. i got full marks for 2quizes(:

train-ed home with yj amd. we nearly miss the jurong east stop. there was a lot of people. we managed to find seats but it's only for 2 people, so we 3 just squeeze onto the seats. i nearly fell asleep but by that time, it was already at admiralty, so didn't get to sleep must. tired.

today was a day of laughter and fun. better than the first day!

I SITLL MISS SCHOOL!

got woken up by 3 alarm clocks at 6.15am and 2 of them snoozed till 7am. crap. was 10-15mins late. took the pasir ris train, so didn't have to change train but it was crowded with people. we were early for once, so me yj amd sat on the platform to wait for ws to arrive. walked to the bus stop and took a shuttle bus in. we were lazy to walk all the way in. reached the lab, those that came early yesterday, came early today too.

today was basically a quite slack day. had a tour at the zebrafish facility. nice. got to see how the zebrafish embryo developed. after that, had our presentation at the room where we had our safety talk. some groups were funny. my group was the last to present. basically, most of our stuff were repeated so it was quite boring. did a feedback form, returned our pass and got our group photo that we took yesterday and a contact list of everyone excluding the contact numbers.

we were released when the school just started assembly. lolx. [don't ask me how i know that]
went to the foodcourt at matrix for the last time. bought some like food as we didn't feel like eating there. so slowly walk to the mrt and train-ed home.

that ends my three days at proteos, biopolis. will miss the place BUT I MISSED SCHOOL TOO!
